The World As I Know It, 2023

My photography relies on catching glimpses of the world around me, spontaneous moments in my everyday life that catch my eye, surprise me, and interest me. They are not usually tied to human bodies, but rather the environment it finds itself in. I find myself pulled in by intense contrast, shadows, patterns and shapes that repeat themselves, and things that look like other things.

This series ties together all these elements in a world void of humans, soaked in light and filled with textures. The mundane world as we know is elevated from ordinary to extra-ordinary. The trace of human presence and illusions through perspectives, reflections, and shadows create an eerie though perhaps familiar feeling.

The Hungarian photographer André Kertész informed my choices of composition and subject matter greatly. He is known for his ground-breaking contribution to photography, and I was inspired by the balance between geometric composition and playful observation in his work.
